Brett Carpenter of Rigid Industries – Social Media, Haters, Non-Endemic Sponsors

We talk about Social Media, Haters, Positive events, Non-Endemic type of sponsors and just how to deal with people and companies in general so that you can benefit yourself and others.  So thankful for him helping save my life.

Coming to you live from the scorching Arizona desert. This is the dirt life show with George Hamil and Cody Sanders.

What’s up? What’s up? Welcome to the dirt life show episode number three. We are stoked to have you guys join us today. Our episodes are just doing awesome. I got my glorious co host Cody Sanders in the studio. It’s gonna be a really awesome show today. We got Brett carpenter from Rigid Industries coming on. The dude is just rad. He works. One of the Rattus companies, he’s got a really cool job. He does marketing over there. So he handles a lot of stuff on social media, he handles stuff with racers going to the events, you know, giving away product and handling. Like, just everything that we think is cool that we see online, he handles most of that stuff. The dude holds a really special piece of my heart. He was one of the dudes. One of the only guys that stopped to help me at the UTV World Championship when I crashed four months ago. And, man, it almost makes me want to cry. Like I I feel like the dude was a real big part of saving my life. Like he did a lot for me.

I know, we’ve talked about it, and I’m excited to actually meet him, you know,

it’s cool, man, I really honestly can’t wait to talk to him. I talked to him once for a little bit last Monday. And shoot dude, like the stuff that he was telling me that he saw he had to go through in that instance, like, he had no idea who I was no idea what was going on. He just saw somebody that was in distress and needed help. And I was thinking about the conversation that we had after he talked to me. And I thought to myself, if somebody is pulled over on the side of the road, and had a flat tire hadn’t broke down car, would I stop? And I said, You know what, George? You probably should think about it a little bit more and be a better person like Brett, and start helping more people. Yeah. Because if he hadn’t done that, I may not be here, right. So it was cool to see, it was cool to talk to him. And I can’t wait to hear what he says about all this social media stuff and how it’s changed the industry change the layout. You know, it doesn’t just change in like racing. It doesn’t just change in sports. It really genuinely changes society and people. And that’s one of the things that I think would be cool. You and I talked about today would be positive stuff to happen to the social media, giveaways, contests, all these crazy things, and then also the negative side like haters. Yeah, I think, you know, haters have a lot to do with the impact of people’s well being these days,

you’re always gonna have

it. Yeah, you’re always gonna have it, but it’s how you deal with it, I think. Right? You know, I know that. A lot of people have a hard time dealing with it, because they take it personally. They take it real personal. But I think just talking about it and seeing different points of view, maybe we can even have some people chime in on that. And social media. If you’re on Facebook, just comment and tell us what you think. I think that would be really cool to talk about the whole subject. And a lot of the hating stuff comes from keyboard warriors, people that can just say whatever they want have it on opinion on Facebook or, or YouTube wherever it is. And I’m 100% about people having their own opinion. Just not having their own opinion when they don’t know what they’re talking about. I think that people should always tell you, if you’re doing something wrong if you’re doing something right, but tell you in a good way. Yeah. Hey, Cody, you’re doing awesome today. Hey, Cody, you didn’t do very good today. Yeah. Hey, George, you’re doing awesome today. Hey, George, you didn’t do very good today. But I think it should be something that’s an open conversation, not a limited amount of feedback, like, Hey, you just did really shitty? And just comment on something. Yeah, and then leave. It just doesn’t make sense. Because that means that your opinion doesn’t go any further than that. When if you have an opinion, and you want to help somebody, let’s do it. Let’s all jump on board and help this person. So I think it’s really cool. I think we want to talk about that. I want to see what Brett says about the way that Rick Rigid Industries deals with it. And just get another another outlook on it. I think it’s really cool that he’s able to put such a positive spin on everything because of his attitude and his mindset and I want to learn from him. Yeah. Let’s thank all of our sponsors. We’ve got some awesome sponsors on board. We have fuel wheels, best wheels in the business. I love them. We have Rigid Industries. Yeah, Rigid Industries. We got some fuel wheels in the studio. We got one over here on over Cody shoulder that that wheel is called The ANS V lock wheel. It’s custom blue for the y z that we did called Project unicorn. So that’s a pretty cool we’ll set a we have like you said Rigid Industries. We’re going to when Brett comes on we’re gonna do a giveaway for the Rigid Industries like bar that I really did on social media. So what is how you pick one? Yeah, but I want to read you some of the comments did some of the comments like somebody me

tagged in those things at all?

I didn’t see you tags. Yeah, man. Dude, where are your friends? What is up talking about haters? Yeah, no doubt they don’t they don’t want you to win this. Hate. Oh, come on. But yeah, so I definitely want to. I think we’re having some problems with the live feed. But I definitely want to, to, to go above and beyond and read some of those comments, because I think some of those comments are pretty awesome.

And we got some of this stuff we’re giving away, right?

Yeah. So we just finalized all the dirt like yeah, thank you so much. All the people that helped and donated to give us this awesome merch, like

only that is I saw that picture of somebody already wearing it. Yeah, social media. So

one of our friends, her name is Delaney. She came over and was our glorious model for the shirt. So nice. Tomorrow, we’re gonna post up all the girls stuff we have here show off the girls on to man. So we got some awesome girls tank tops. So we got a white one and a gray one. And for the guy stuff we got, we got to print on the front. And we also got to pray on the shoulder like the one that Cody’s wearing. But these are awesome. Yeah. pull towards that camera, too. They, and yeah, like I said, I want to thank everybody that donated and giveaway for us to be able to sell those things. So all the proceeds are gonna go to making our podcast better. Yeah. So we got hats, guys, shirts, we got three different colorways all different sizes. But you gotta hurry and get them quick, because quantities are very limited. So this is just the first run. Tell us what you think. Tell us how they fit. I mean, they’re super soft. I mean, I love these ads, please you Yeah, these your ones. And these ones are the same T shirt and they’re awesome. Yeah, they’re awesome. So yeah, get yourself some. And we’re gonna do a giveaway. So what do you think we should do for the giveaway? I’m thinking a shirt and a hat. But I think in we want to do a shirt and a hat for the guys and a shirt for the girls. Let’s do that. Let me Hey, my wife loves the white one. The white one a tea shop.

She got the tank top and then she has the white dirt life show that hat.

Yeah, these tank tops are so nice. Yeah, no. And they go down on the bottom. They’re curved on the bottom. And our model Delaney so that she loved it because it was the way I fit, man. Yeah. And so thank you Laney for coming over. Appreciate it. And we’re gonna post some stuff tomorrow. And you guys can go buy some stuff. And I don’t know what do you what you want to do a social media giveaway? What do you Yeah, let’s

let’s, let’s do just a blind drawing. Yeah, let’s do that. Then we’ll have like, we’ll give them like 10 minutes to just write what their favorite car is or their favorite make or something. And then, in 10 minutes, we’ll just hand it out.

All right. You want to do it live on the show? Or do you want to do a show? Yeah. Sweet. Okay, live on the show. Cool. And then we’ll ask you guys just to post online and share your your social media. Share it on your social media. All right. Well, what else do we got for today? Oh, well, let’s tell everybody how to connect. So speaking of social media, let’s have all you guys connect on our social media platforms. We got Facebook, we got YouTube, we have Instagram, and it’s all at dirt life show so connect on I connect us and Cody will be answering all your social media stuff. If you have any questions, just shoot us a message and we’ll just slide into his DMS. Yeah, Derek a giveaway is gonna be really cool, man. I’m upset

nobody tagged me man.

Honestly, that thing is expensive. Yeah, that’s pretty good.

I think everybody want that’s a pretty bitchin product everybody

wants a good that’s what we should ask Brett tonight to we should ask him and see what kind of cool stuff they got coming out. Yeah. Oh, you know what else I wanted to ask him to? Don’t let me forget to chime in. I definitely want to talk to him about all the stuff that they do outside of motorsports. So they do some serious stuff with government and you know, armed forces and stuff like that. It’s good to know. Yeah, cool. No, I want to hear about that stuff. Because honestly, seeing like those big you know, the TRVs and all these all these real heavy equipment like the badass stuff. I want to hear about that dude. Yeah, so let’s definitely talk to him about that. We’re going to talk to him what time is it now it’s around 610 We’re going to talk to Brett in about 1520 minutes here. So let’s uh, let’s get into the the haters I want well, actually, you know what, let’s, let’s talk about what you did this week and what you got going on in the next couple of months because I know you got some cool side by sides.

Yeah, we this weekend I you know, we just kind of took it took it easy this weekend. We’re all going to Lake this weekend coming up for Labor Day. So that’s been really we’ve been excited to do that. We kind of like I said, haven’t been really doing much the cyber side world. It’s hot right now. Yeah, but I’ve been working on my car trying to get it ready for dune season. All the main stuff like that, putting new whips on it. So it’s been cool. I ripped around the block and, you know, slide around the corners, and it’s that veil life, man. It was roll, man.

I don’t think I’ll be able to man. So, uh oh. And another thing we should mention is, we may or may not have a show next week. I have a photoshoot in Tempe on Thursday. And then on Friday, they’re going to do some pretty serious ear surgery on my radio. So depending on how I feel on Monday, I didn’t schedule any future guests. But if we do have a show, there’s a couple other things that I’d like to talk about. And I’d like to get into since I’ve gotten most of the information back from my injury from the PTO and my accident. I’d like to just sit down with you and we could kind of go over and help people understand what happened. Yeah, I know, a lot of people want to know. Yeah. So we’ll see. We’ll see though. Like, let’s just see how I feel on a little bit today. Yeah. Yeah. Sounds good. All right. So like I said, we got Brett Carpenter on the, on the phone today or on Facebook, or excuse me, FaceTime. He is just an awesome, dude. And let’s get back to what you were talking about with your weekend.

What Yeah, the weekend went good, man. Like I said, it just kind of been chilling out and kind of getting ready for sand land man that’s coming up. So it’s gonna be just been doing all the maintenance on the car. And, you know, I would hate to have something catastrophic happen during a dune season. Yeah, that’s the worst. You know what I mean? It’s the worst time for something bad to happen,

you know. And one, like, we I used to go to the dunes and I used to just load up and go, Yeah, you know, change the oil every now and then. And I’m talking about dirt bikes, but with the side by side stuff, I’d usually do the same thing. But I’d go in, I have an issue. And then some of my crew chief Brian Lopez, he was telling me he’s like, dude, no, like, take two weeks before you go to dune season. Maintain your car, strip it down. Put it back here, just like you do the races. Yeah. And you’ll have a much better time. And I started doing that. And it was like flawless.

Yeah, I mean, I’m down to the point where now I just got to just make sure everything is greased up all the fittings and then I should be ready to roll. So and it’ll probably sit till then other than ripping around the neighborhood slider on the corners, but that’s about it.

Yeah, that’s cool, though. Yeah. Nice and shiny. Oh, yeah. Yeah, I think it’s gonna be pretty awesome. This student season two. Yeah, like there’s so many people that are starting to get side by side. It’s like it’s crazy. You thought it was big?

Like three years ago? I

thought it was insane. Did now like the amount of people that have side by sides and go to the dunes? Yeah, like, but I think it’s bitchin. Like it’s a perfect you know, one of these years we should do a podcast at the dance tear down. We should do it. Let’s do it in the clean shock therapy tent. Get our sponsor

their big old truck that sits out there. I’m in

the end they got pavement to man out he super cool. Cool. Well, what kind of events like I know you have some events? Yeah, I got. Alright. So we’ll tell everybody what they’re for. Because you operate a Facebook page.

Yeah, I’ll put on our Facebook page. Once you guys know me. I own and operate five to have side by side Facebook page. I know there’s a lot of Facebook pages out there. But if you’ve never been on five to a site besides pretty active, do a lot of good events. Met a lot of really good people. But anyway,

five to Oh is the area code of the town we live in called tucson arizona

pretty much wraps around goes all the way to Phoenix almost. So that’s why I did it. But other than that, so we have my dunes season. This year. I’m not going to make it to camp raiser, sadly, but Veterans Week won’t be my first my first trip. Well, I’ll be out there hanging out. And then we have that and then we have DDR, which is a Tucson thing. Darren’s doing run. That’s a big fundraiser event. It’s really cool for a guy named Darren. Darren. Yeah, yeah. So we do that and then New Years is a big trip. Thanksgiving is a hit and miss we there’s one of the dunes we go to buoy Hartwell dunes here in Arizona, Safford.

What was the one that you guys do for Christmas? That was is that like a toys for Todd? Yeah, we like

a big toy Iran. We team up with Goldie’s painting body? Yeah.

Great. Jeremy just commented to see oh, no, that’s Jeremy Hillard sampler. But yeah, a Goldie’s is a really good company. Yeah,

we decided to team up last year. This will be the third annual run I’ve done. And this last year, we decided to do diamond children’s. And we raised 20 grand for that, I believe and then and that’s a children’s hospital Children’s Hospital. Yes. And we had a lot of people show up. We had one of our RV dealers here in Tucson. Desert RV, teamed up with us and then we filled up his personal toy hauler with all these toys really? And then we wrote how cool is that? Awesome. And then we went from Goldie’s and we went around through Tucson to diamond children’s on top of the parking garage. And the local at the local university hospital. Ghana. Yeah, and then all the kids that are sick, they can’t get out. They don’t get to see you know what I mean? They’re stuck behind glass. So they all as we were riding up with all of our Christmas lights and everything they were all oh you know what this awesome picture that you guys all have I got goosebumps man because it was insane you guys on the side by sides decorated with lights right on top so they got to see us coming down the road and then all us all you see is you look up and and it just they all swarm the windows man for it gives me goosebumps because it was so

cool for them. That’s like seeing Santa Claus. Yeah, a common dream, man. Awesome,

man. And then we kind of got split up. So like they there was a lot of construction going on at banner. And a lot of people one guy made right turn where you shouldn’t have wrapped around in a dead end and he was made a U turn and it was all dirt and they were sliding around the corner just dirt up in the air. So all the kids were really loving it ended up working out really good

right on, Jeremy Goldie just popped on. Right? And hey, Jeremy, make sure you tell Margaret. I need some more salsa, man. Yes. Also that she was off the chain.

Yeah, George gave me some of that saucer man. Out of that thing. Hey, Margaret,

I need some more. And the jerky man. Yeah. Oh, did some of that stuff was just really good. Yeah, so those events all sound like a blast. Yeah, but I know a lot of our listeners may not be able to go to some of those events. So if you can definitely hit Cody up on his page, or messages through dirt life, and, and get involved with those things. Because they were super cool events. They’re super cool events and all of the events that Cody does have an alternative. They’re either helping somebody helping an organization, or an alternative for people that haven’t gone to a certain designated area to ride. And they can go ride with them. And he can take them out or somebody that knows those areas, because Cody talks all the people on the on the groups and make sure that they have a safe ride. So definitely join us for some of those Facebook pages or message us through dirt. Like get hooked up with Cody stuff. Well, what I did this weekend, was trying to learn a little bit more of the broadcast.

Oh, man. It’s getting wild over here. Well,

I think it’s getting a lot better though. It’s only a third episode. We’ve had a bunch of bunch of people commenting saying it’s so awesome. Yes, we’re doing a great job. This is a perfect segue into the haters, though. Yeah. So I know that you and I deal with stuff a lot the same, we have a lot of the same mentality. You’re a very good person, you always want to help people clearly with the events that you’re doing and side by sides. But just in general, when you shake somebody’s hand, you mean it? You’re a good dude. So when people are hating on stuff that you do, how do you deal with it?

Man, you know, I kind of, you know, at first, I don’t really care, but then you know, as time goes on, it’s like one person says one thing. And then before you know it, it went it all get started with the skies, blue, right, and then down the road, all of a sudden disguise black. And it’s like, in their opinion, or in their overall people just talk man. And you just got to learn to deal with people that what I’ve taken it as, as people who talk either are jealous of you. Or they just don’t know you. That’s how I take it. So as time goes on, you feel that the same people that you’ve heard talk over time, it’s like, oh, man, you know, you aren’t that bad of a guy. And I’m like, Dude, I don’t know what the problem is. You know, that time goes on. And they usually end up you know, saying, Hey, dude, I’m really sorry, you know, but by then there’s already so many other people that have heard a different story.

Yeah, I get what you’re saying. It’s like that whole thing. That game we used to play like, you can even play when you’re drunk. And it’s like, Hey, I’ll tell you one thing you tell the next person and then see how far it turns out by the end of the 10th person. Yeah, yeah. Like, I know exactly what you mean. And that does have a real negative impact, especially for businesses. And with social the advent of social media these days, I think it’s really, really crucial that people can differentiate from an opinionated comment from somebody that doesn’t like you, or jealous of you, whatever it is, to somebody that’s giving you an opinion that you can constructively take and make better. Yeah. So I know that you do it very well. When when people get on you for something. And then you know, I’ve had conversations with you, and you’ll come over and talk in the garage or whatever. And you’ll be like, dude, this guy was he was being a total jerk. Yeah, he was being a total jerk. But you know what, I did learn some from it. And now I’m making myself better. I don’t know if that guy’s gonna make himself any better. But I am.

Yeah, I mean, with all these social media pages now. I mean, it’s, it’s crazy. It’s out of hand. And, you know, you get these people that start these pages, and it’s like, man, you know, I support them all. I’m one of those people, no support at all, you know, but at the end of the day, every one of these same pages that are starting to come up, they’re all turning into the same members. This is it’s a circle of the same people.

And you’re talking about pages that are on Facebook that are just Well, I think that’s probably has a lot to do with the people that you’re following though, too. And I noticed that after allowed me as well. And honestly, like, I try to post a lot on social media as much as I can, if I have a little idea or something, I’ll do it. But I don’t really read that much like I don’t I’m not that big of a social media voyeur I, I like to understand and see cool stuff. But I kind of just use it as a platform for making my brain feel healthier, and like the stuff that really intrigues me. Like, if, if I’m going to a concert, I’m gonna listen to the music that I want to listen to. And I’m gonna go to the concert that I want to listen to. And that’s kind of where I put myself on social media, too. So if, if I’m not interested in something, I just bypass it. Yeah. But there are a lot of things that I do like to see when it comes to people being haters, because everybody says, social media is just people posting good shit, right? So you have to have that level of people talking bad about the good shit too, because it evens out a little bit. It gives you an overall perspective of what people’s opinions are, it just depends on how you take it. Because really, the thing that really bothers me, and I said it before at the beginning of the show, is when she will talk about stuff that they don’t know about. So if you’re commenting a negative thing on something that you have no idea about. It’s very, very hurtful and negative as a general context for the other person that you’re talking to. And I’ll bring up a specific example. And I don’t know who the person was because they were anonymous. But we started up a GoFundMe after my accident four months ago. And the GoFundMe was started by my dad and Brian Lopez, and they had no idea what was gonna happen, right. They had no idea about medical bills, they had no idea about anything, they just want, they just knew that I was really messed up. If I made it out of this, or I didn’t, I was going to need some funds, and my family was going to need some funds to cover it. Medical bills are how freakin rageous like, so outrageous, just for me to get in a helicopter. Because they transferred me from the racetrack in an ambulance to Bullhead City and the Bullhead City. It was not a trauma center the hospitals not so I had to take a helicopter up to the trauma center in Las Vegas. And the reason I had to take a helicopter was because I was in such bad shape. I wouldn’t have made it if I hadn’t gone up there that quick. And that helicopter ride all those maybe 20 or 30 minutes was $75,000.

Yeah. And you could have went took a trip to Grand Canyon for 250.

It’s like it’s astronomical. And we’re adding it up the other day for no other reason, then then like the the understanding of what how much the medical bills are, and just for my medical bills in the month that I was in the hospital, and the helicopter ride was just under half a million dollars. Can you believe that? I mean, insurance takes care of some of that stuff. It’s um, it’s crazy to me. But how did like I don’t even understand that. And to get back to my point about the haters. This is real life. This is like the the medical bills that we’re looking at. We we did set up a GoFundMe, they had no idea how much it was gonna cost they set out to the $500,000 $500,000 a lot of money. And when I would look at a GoFundMe like that, I would say, man, they’re asking for a lot of money. But knowing now what I know, that’s not an outrageous amount of money to ask for. That’s a good dent. Yeah, exactly. And one of the people and again, I don’t know who it was commented on that GoFundMe post saying, I don’t remember the exact words, but saying something along the lines of this is bullshit. This is a scam. Don’t bother helping this person eff this, you know, like, so negative. And the first thing that I think is I don’t give a shit. I don’t care. Nobody around me is gonna care. They know what’s going on. But it negatively impacts just like what you were saying about the Facebook pages. Yep. All of the other people that see it because maybe somebody was going to donate $5. And they see a comment like that. It tells them maybe I shouldn’t donate the $5 Just because somebody had an opinion that they had no idea what was going on. So they made an opinion without an education on something that they don’t know about. And who pays the price the person that’s in distress. In this case, it was me. Well, this must happen millions of times a day. Like I’m just one of the examples for that one time that happened. So I genuinely feel bad. And the reason that I wanted to have you explain some of the events that you do was because you’re the opposite of that. You’re a trademark person that helps without asking for anything back. You’re helping these kids and the smiles and the windows you know and all the stuff that you saw that day was exactly the opposite of what somebody else might do on a, you know, on a keyboard stroke.

It’s just, it’s crazy because you know it, the off road scene gets such a bad rap, you know what I mean? So to get a good, like Ron personalities though, these guys, you know, people are like, Oh, they go tear up, you know, these trails and stay on the trails. And, you know, everyone I’ve written with, it’s not like, Oh, I’m just gonna go, Oh, I

see. Through the desert. You’re talking about people fucking stuff. Yeah, trails, but

what I’m saying is, is we had such a bad rep. So we do things like that. It shows that we are normal people, we do care. And they’re like, these guys are not that bad. You know what I mean?

Yeah, but that that’s the problem, though, is like, you can do 20 positives and one negative or ruin it. So now I’m gonna keep doing my 20 Positive. Not that we’re gonna change the world. But definitely don’t stop what you’re doing. And I think it’s really cool. And that’s the full circle thing that I was going to talk about is, everybody’s gonna have their own opinion. I love it. I love haters. I love their opinions. I just don’t want to see it negatively impact somebody or some person in a negative way. If it affects me, I can probably deal with it. Yeah. Did it affect me, I’ll never know, in that case of the Go Fund Me stuff. But the best part about it was, I don’t think that anybody that you dealt with, or the people after that cared about that they cared so much, that they still donated, that they came to the fundraiser for us. They still helped me get to the the amount of money that we got. That will hopefully pay for a little bit of my teeth.

Yeah, let’s get into that. Man. Your teeth? You know, when we talked before? You’re like, Cody, you don’t understand. Like, look at this. Look how much a grill is gonna cost like, just to have good teeth again, is what? 50 grand? And that’s even just the start of it.

Yeah. And well, it depends on the surgeries. And I don’t I hope that my teeth don’t cost 50 grand. I’ve heard stories of people going in it probably depends on what dentist you go to and stuff. But it’s like one of those things like, Do you go to the cheap guy like the the guy that you have no idea is going to give you good teeth. Like, for me, it’s not just about having good looking teeth. Of course, everybody wants to have good looking teeth. Right? Now I have somebody broken teeth and so many missing teeth. That I can’t eat that good, right? Like I had to eat on one side of my mouth. And like if I bite my mouth once, and it hit like it’ll start slowing off. Like there’s all kinds of like adverse effects. And I have no idea how much it’s gonna cost. But the best part is, is the people that donated to the contest that we had at the fundraiser, the people that just straight up donated, all these people are helping me make my quality of life better. Yep. Because I’ll be able to go get these teeth. I don’t think the the money is the biggest issue because I don’t think it’s going to cover everything. I think it’s the general consensus of these awesome people that are clearly not haters. That helped. Yeah. And it just means the world to me. Like to see one guy comment in a negative manner. It really hurts, right?

It’s like, dude, oh, man, it really

but then you have all these people like you and all these other people that helped out the Yamaha YZ AZ crew, Frank and Tiffany, they did a huge, huge thing for me, Jeff Angel, all these guys. Everybody, Brian Forrester, you know, he was in last week, all these people. And if I’m missing anybody, please include yourself in my thanks. But gosh, it’s so awesome. Because now I get to go in there. And I don’t have to say can I get on a payment plan? I can say like, what’s the leftover cost? Because all these people helped me out. I can go get new teeth. Yeah. And shit. I’m gonna eat a shitload more tacos. Dude, we cut out miles cheek, Our second guest to

hook us tacos de Asian tacos.

No, we get whatever we can get, man. So, um,

I mean, we had a lot of people from all over Arizona show up to that event.

I couldn’t believe it did.

I mean, people from Rimrock Cottonwood, that’s a far haul man for the day

when you started this fundraiser thing. And I guess we should talk about positives too. Instead of just the haters. Yeah. When you started this fundraiser thing you would come over and my mechanic hurt my crew, Chief Brand, Lopez, brand forester and yourself. You came over to wash? The Yamaha. Yeah. Because you guys wanted to look for the fundraiser. You walked inside my house. And I remember like, Yeah, talk to you. I don’t want to cry. But like, you looked at me. Yeah. And I swear we’ve never talked about that. But yeah, it looked like you were looking like out of Denver. Yeah, yeah. That’s about it was like what the hell like what, like, this guy is not gonna make a fundraiser

We had a good team for that. And that’s what it’s all about man and taking care of each other. Either if it was a someone like you who had a bad accident or somebody you know, it was going like a childhood. Yeah, it’s just a tough time. I think for everybody goes through a tough time. Each way you look at anything in life.

Yeah, whether it’s a mental disability financial, medical, yeah,

I I I think it was a huge success on everybody. We had a good team come in, we teamed up pretty good with white ZZ local businesses showed up and put in. You know

that guy Terry from Rita ranch. I still want to go like I bears that. Yeah,

Yeah, really. Margaret brought that sauce. There are so many good things like I remember just a little kids walking around even my dad. Yeah, it just makes me happy to see that. What’s going on? How’s it going, guys?

We’re doing awesome, man. We’re in the scorching Arizona desert as the dirt life show intro told us. I don’t know.

You were hot. How about you guys down there right now? What was your tip today?

Yeah, it’s like, it’s it’s like 107 100 800? I don’t know. It’s just it’s too hot. Too hot enough to where I just try not to leave the building.

Yeah, I bet it’s quite nice actually in your office, right? Yeah, not bad. Well, so Brett works at Rigid Industries. He deals with a ton of racers and tell us a little bit more about what you kind of do on a daily basis over there rigid.

Yeah, so I am the Marketing Director over here rigid. So we’ve got, I mean, we handle a lot more than than just racers, that’s, that’s actually actually a smaller part of it. We, we we go to 40 5060 events, trade shows throughout the year, you know, new product launches and campaigns and stuff like that. So I’ve got a, I’ve got a team of, there’s about six of us. They’re all just just kick ass and what they do. And they are. I mean, they’re they’re they’re each the reason why we are so successful. Our marketing is marketing is pretty strong. And that comes from the team that I work with. So but yeah, we’re doing a lot. It’s fast paced. We got about 10 things going on at once all the time. And we just have to keep on moving forward. So it’s busy, but it’s fun. And we’re getting into the busiest time of the year, as you guys probably know, just a bunch of shows coming up. Yep. seen big races. You know, it’s it’s contract time. Everyone wants to talk about 2020 Yep. So So there’s just a lot going on, which is, which is cool. It’s also busy and stressful. It’s it’s all the above. But it’s it’s fun.

That’s cool. And especially since you have such a good team working with you to the one of the things that I was wondering was when you do have these contracts, seasons and things like that, again, we’re talking about racing a little bit, but you have to deal with a lot of racers. And we were talking about how social media impacts the industry, not just individuals, but how it impacts the industry and different changes. Like I almost want to call him climate changes because social media is so up and down and so infrequent all the time. And you have different topics all the time. You have haters, you have people talking positive about the stuff. I think Richard does a great, great job at managing all these things. So what kind of stuff do you guys see as positives and negatives from social media?

from social media, I guess As we look at a couple of ways from, I guess from a sponsorship standpoint, it’s, I think social media has been awesome, obviously, for everybody for the last 10 years, and just how you market products and how you how you market yourself and your brand, and whatever it is that you’re representing. Right. It’s also, it’s also challenging to because, you know, at this point, everybody, you know, you get approached quite a bit. And, you know, there’s a lot of people who will approach you with, with just some standard stuff that, you know, they want you to sponsor them, and they’ll tell you, you know, I’ll do this, and this, and I do this on social media, and that’s, in my opinion, now, like that stuff is just standard, like, you know, shouldn’t even it shouldn’t even be the point of discussion. It’s, it’s now what can you do beyond that? And how do you how do you leverage your social media to brand yourself and market yourself and market the products that you’re representing? And the companies that you’re representing? Because that’s, that’s, I think, where the bigger strength comes is what you do with it, you know, and so, you know, we deal with that a lot. And it’s, you know, well, that

makes a lot of sense. Because there’s not just value in numbers, I think, with social media, like, I’ve had a couple of conversations, one with Ryan O’Hare, on fuel off road to about this. And he was saying that when when he sees a resume, a resume is worth a little bit of the contract, social media is worth a little bit of a contract. And I’m not just talking about a racer, like, you don’t have to be a racer to get sponsored these days, you can have a good social media presence, you can be, well, I hate this word now. But an influencer and but you can really make a difference in the company’s representation, depending on how you act and how and the people that you have in your following. And I think it actually does make a big difference and the things that he was telling me, you might be able to kind of chime in on this. And he was saying, it doesn’t matter how many followers you have, it doesn’t matter how many likes you get, it matters, how loyal the interaction is, with the people that are, you know, are judging you and looking at your profile, and what kind of context you can bring from the company standpoint out to the public.

Yeah, that’s a good point. And part of the process too, is like, you know, FOMO racer, which we, we, we’ve clearly found out that I’m not one of the one of the, you know, if I’m a racer, and I’m reaching out to, to a new company, or a new a new brand, that I want to work with, you know, I think that what gets missed a lot early in the conversation is like, you know, asking a couple questions like, What are your What are your marketing goals for next year? Like, what are you? What are you trying to accomplish? What do you do you have new products launching is there you know, what shows are you attending, like, I think if a racer takes the time to ask a few of those questions, and learn a little bit more about what the company is doing, you know, I think it’ll I think it’ll, at least at a minimum, extend the conversation, you know, and, you know, it’ll, it’ll increase your odds of being able to work with the company, maybe it’s not a, you know, quote, unquote, sponsorship, but if you, if you take the time to learn a little bit more about what the company is doing, and how you can you know, once we hear something you can jump into, oh, I can help you with that. Yeah, don’t here’s what I can do from a, you know, either a hospitality standpoint, or, you know, b2b with some of my other sponsors. Like, I think learning a little bit more about what the company is doing can go a long way for, you know, for how you approach that sponsor,

man. I agree. 100%. And I actually have a good example of this, too, is we had some support from Yamaha when the side by side stuff, and we did a very good job at just what you’re saying. The the way that it started out, it was a lot more organic, like what you’re saying, I never ever approached them. I said, What can we do for you? And, you know, like, we just had conversations, I would always talk to the guys because we were doing go to the races and stuff. So we had a, you know, bro handshake here and there. But I said, What can I do for you? How can I help you? And it ended up that we were in a situation that one of their factory drivers couldn’t go to a show in Arizona? Well, clearly, it was easy for me. They called me and they said, dude, shit, we’re in a real bind here. Can you like head out tomorrow? And I’m like, You guys are so lucky. The cars claim like I’m ready to go, like work. And so I ended up doing six or seven events. I did it all on my own dime. And I gave them reports after the show. I said I talked to 300 people, it seemed like six of them were actually interested in it. Four of them said that they wouldn’t buy a Yamaha vehicle because they were only looking for a four seater razor or something like that. And I gave him these these different things that I thought might be valuable to them. And I just sent him an email. Now, after a little bit, they were like, wow, like this is really good information. And then So towards the end of the year, they asked me to do another event. It was called the jump champs and we had to go out to Glen Helen and we had to do like a time trial race and stuff. But we are the show Case driver. And we we had a great time. And I asked him, I said, Can we take a couple minutes and maybe talk about something that I would like in return? They said, No problem, you know, you’ve done so much for us. What can we do to help you? And I said, Well, I don’t want anything for free. All I want is to have a handshake from you guys and start a relationship. They said, We don’t have any budget. We we haven’t, you know, we’re not able to help you. We already spent it. We got all these racers on it, we got our budget or stamp deed, sorry. I said, That’s okay. All I want to do is help with what you guys got going on in the future? What do you have? They said, All right, give me a few months, and we’ll talk about it, we’ll see what we have. Well, a few months go by, and they have me do a couple more shows and different things like that. But what happened in those few months was transitionary. In their business environment, nothing to do with me. But they got a little bit of budget, they got a little bit of extra that they could do. They got leftover vehicles. And so they called me up and said, hey, you know what? We can do some for you now. We’re willing to help you.

That’s great. Yeah. I mean, yeah, if you make yourself available, and just, you know, if you can remain flexible. And just just get involved. I mean, like you said, it’s not so much asking for something for free. You just wanted to work with them. And I think that’s a big part of, you know, something, I think that’s, that’s a strategy that works. I mean, make yourself available, you know, provide some, some some opportunity for the company as well. But if you once once you get in there, and you find an opportunity where you can help them check a box where they’re like, Okay, this makes sense. You know, that’s where that’s where you can you can really see it start to snowball.

Yeah, I agree. And I’ve heard other people say the same kind of things in different positions similar to yours is just have a conversation with somebody, and then you never know, when maybe five years from now, Cody just calls up Breton’s, like, Hey, we got this cool event, I think Richard would light up the whole show. Yeah, like, let’s do it, you know,

like, we get you involved this year. Christmas event?

Yeah. That’s it, that’s it, it’s all takes, right. And sometimes it’s hard like you there’s certainly barriers, you got to try to break through, you got to get through certain people, and whether it’s meeting somebody at a booth at a show or something and, you know, getting the right contact, but I mean, just once you do, and you start talking to them and learning more about what they’re doing. I mean, it’s all about achieving a goal. And that selling product, you know, and helping that company sell products. So what can you do to help them do that? You know, it’s more than it’s more than obviously just slapping a sticker on a truck and, you know, tagging them on social media, that’s, that’s all part of the deal. But, you know, how can we leverage that into something else from a sales promo, or, you know, ride alongs or, you know, Employee of the Month Contest or something. So there’s, there’s a lot of really, really interesting things that you can do if you get creative. So that’s, that’s what’s cool. That’s what’s fun about about this is getting creative with with other, you know, creative marketing minds and learning from from them even in figuring out what works, then we can apply it to another driver or another, another brand ambassador. And, you know, then you see what works from that and, you know, eventually develop a couple of really neat programs and you’re in you’re hopefully selling some product.

Well, look at what we’re doing. We’re doing the giveaway. Oh, yeah.

We’ll do that giveaway. Just a little bit here. But yeah, you’re exactly right, though. Like I love hearing stories like that. Because you like we’re to talk about racing, because that’s what I did. And, and, you know, got got involved with you. But it’s awesome to hear that because I just think like, there’s so much like, you deal with it every day, but in my mind is blown up right now. I’m like, oh, man, he could go like all these really good Facebook groups. And they can have a little Christmas thing sponsored by Reggie with all these badass lights and all these crazy things. And like, those things are really cool. Like, I can only imagine the stuff that you get approached with.

Yeah, no, and that’s what’s cool is you just start throwing around ideas like that something will stick. I mean, it’s, I mean, we’ve had products that I’ve launched that started as a drawing on a napkin, from our, you know, our ownership group from from, you know, the guys who started the company, and that’s what’s pretty neat. We use sit down with someone if go to a show, or you know, at a race or something or contingency take the time to just chit chat with someone and you never know what type of conversational will come up and where that’ll lead to, you know, I mean, if anything, you you make a connection and you gotta you got a contact in your back pocket down the road, and you know, at least you’re gonna be able to say hi to someone the next time you see him, but unless you try and talk to someone, you know, so yeah, that was fun.

That makes a lot of sense. And that actually makes a lot of sense with, with what I’ve judged your personality as now that that, that I know you a little bit. And for you to have those conversations and to have that open openness is is really valuable not only in your position, but in my life and everybody around you is life because I told people a little earlier that you’re very, very special in my heart, because I genuinely don’t know that I’d be sitting here in the same position. Had you not stopped on the race course to help me at the To The World Championship, so it gets a little teared up talking about it. But, dude, you got a really good open understanding personality for situations around you, not just helping me. But obviously, when you talk about the things that you do and the openness that you have to understanding what people are doing creatively in Oregon Vironment.

I appreciate that you would have done the same. I was. I don’t know if I had any business even being in that race to begin with. But

as a business for me, I learned real quick what it takes to

be a racecar driver. But, you know, that was, that was a unique experience. But now I didn’t think twice about it, I saw you, you need my help more than more than continuing that race. So you know, like I said, you would have done it, you would have done it for anybody else. So glad, I’m just glad you glad you were glad you pulled through it, man. And it’s, it’s amazing to see your journey and your recovery. And, I mean, this is this is the first time you and I have actually physically seen each other since that day, and you probably don’t even remember seeing me there. But you know, it’s it’s amazing to see what you look like now physically and your recovery and in the long run. You’ve had minutes it’s quite impressive, and I’m pretty proud of it, man. It’s pretty cool.

I think really, he just wanted to see the unicorn.

Yeah, I think that’s good that Yamaha

build was that that unicorn was that thing’s pretty pretty sweet man. What a cool build that was what a cool idea. So I mean, what are the word of the unicorn come from? Is it just just a testament to your your previous injuries and never giving up? And is that is that kind of that how it all ties together? Say

I love how creative minds think alike. But yeah, so it was a little bit so there was a there was an idea that came across my head and not that I like it love her unicorns now I do clearly but

so they’re pretty salty, right?

I thought to myself, one day I go, you know, I’ve been through a lot in my life, I’ve been able to get up from you know, wheelchair and be able to walk again, and all these different things, and they’re things I’m never supposed to be able to do. Like, I was never supposed to be in a wheelchair, you know, just

a doctor’s still wasting should be in your, your beds.

Yeah. So that the things that are dealt with in the past made me feel like, hey, you know what, I want to do a project because I’ve achieved in my mind what I think are miracles. Miracles are something that’s not supposed to happen, unicorns are not supposed to happen. So I developed the unicorn idea in the chance of being able to get other people that have a disability, be able to drive the car or at least test out the car. And the unicorn theme was just to show that and it started as kind of a little side project thing and we started doing unicorn ECU flash tunes. So you know, side by sides are supposed to be overgrown golf carts, and they’ve turned into these badass machines, right? And the Yamaha for whatever reason is tuned down so much in stock that I thought the first tune that I got from graves motorsports, I thought holy shit, this thing is frickin insane. Like it turned this thing into a rocket ship from a freakin Slowpoke. And so I was like, this thing is definitely you know, I’m gonna call this a unicorn flashin. And I’ll just give it to all my friends. So that’s where the unicorn name came from. And then we did pretty cool. Yeah. And so it kind of just came full circle. And we still have some stuff that you might actually be involved want to be involved later. But I want to see if I can do a ride across the country. And I have all the maps to do it. And off road journey across the country. It’s called the Transamerica trail. And it starts off in Oregon and ends up in South Carolina. And it’s all dirt the whole way. So I want to do a big promotion, a cross country tour. But again, one of the main things that I want to do is I want to showcase a disability, like you don’t have to have a disability and sit inside your house and just waste away. You can have a disability, but then you can drive the unicorn, I’ll give it to you and you can follow us across the country. And you can come with us and maybe it’s a person I just got to the hospital, maybe it’s a person that doesn’t think they’ll be able to do it. I think it’d be super cool to have this thing via a platform for people to grow.

Yeah, that’d be awesome. I mean, there’s there’s so many ways that you can inspire people through that it’s not even funny I mean, and let alone the adventure itself I think is just gonna be it’s just gonna be awesome. So I would imagine you’re gonna have to ride ride through the dark right?

Yeah, exactly. So

we’ll have to light that thing up but no, that’s pretty cool man. That’s awesome. That’d be sweet keep you posted on that that’s gonna be

Yeah, I wanted to do it in September this year but clearly situation has changed so maybe we’ll be able to do it either in the spring next year or in the fall next year when it cools off a little bit so what is put it off now put on the back burner for now but when the time comes, I’ll definitely get a hold of you for it but I think we should definitely do something that’s that’s better than just lighting up the night. I think we should light up a person’s universe and make them feel like a unicorn, you know, and like make them feel really good. and get some some people involved that are genuinely worth taking across the country. Maybe some of these disabled people can’t make it across country, maybe we stop in every state and let somebody across the state and get a ride back or something like

plenty of things you can do, man, that’s pretty cool. It’s very inspiring. Just you know, I mean, it’s just another, just another notch in your on your belt of just ways to overcome and inspire other people along the way. Man, that’s, that’s a killer idea.

Well, I thank you, I definitely don’t want it to be about me, I definitely want to be about other people. And I definitely would like to see great people like the company that you market get involved to. So a couple of the questions that we wanted to ask of you was, we had a discussion today about haters, and how social media just drastically impacts people. And this isn’t just like somebody saying, Rich is awesome, or I had a problem with rigid or whatever, it’s about the impact that it has on a person’s well being. So when somebody comes on, and they are supported by region or region gets a negative feedback, how do you how does Richard deal with it? And how do you deal with positive feedback?

Well, we I mean, social medias, you know, there’s, there’s, it makes it very easy for someone to express their feelings when they you know, and a quick, easy way. And I think a lot of its emotional thinking, you know, it’s so easy to just type something out on your keyboard, and press Enter on your phone, or whatever. So I don’t think there’s a lot of thought process and a lot of that, like, if you’re, there’s been times that I’ve been frustrated about things too. And it’s like, man, if you just sit there and it’s like impulse shopping, like, do you really need it, I don’t know, sit back and you know, take 1015 minutes, think about or do another lap, and you come back, maybe you don’t need to, I think it’s the same thing with with, you know, wanting to really express some frustration about something, if you take a breath, and you know, think about it a couple times, then you may decide not to, you know, if you really plan on really attacking someone. In terms of rigid, I mean, we deal with it quite a bit. You know, there’s there’s a lot of people that get frustrated for different reasons, or they just want to call out a particular post that we’ll throw up on on Instagram or something like that. And that stuff is just you kind of have to kind of have to, you know, you address it, if it’s if it looks like something that’s, you know, a concern that you’re like, Okay, well, that’s something we can easily fix if they think that about our product or about our company or whatever. But if it’s something that’s just I mean, that spirals out of control, and it’s just just pure Hey, sometimes you have to eat, you got to just brush it off and move past it. But you know, if it’s, if there’s a warranty issue or something that someone’s like, hey, my light bar sucks, like, it doesn’t work or whatever it’s like, well, we’ll take a look at that. It’s like, alright, well tell, tell us what’s going on? How can we help? How can we fix it? And then nine times, nine times out of 10, we actually connect with the person and figure out what what the issue was why they decided to blow us up. And then we’ll fix it for him and hope that they changed their thought process and

nine out of 10, they probably come back way stronger and happy, correct?

Yeah, exactly. I mean, is everybody but you know, you can certainly we try, you know, and again, the ones that are relevant to you know, if it’s if it’s product performance, or something like that, we don’t want any, you know, any discount unhappy customers. So, you know, you gotta you gotta kind of choose your battles, just like anything else in life. But, you know, it happens quite a bit. Well, that shows

a lot in the just how good of a company is when they when they do that and ridges case, obviously, they’re an awesome company with awesome products, but the, the way that their, their team was taught to deal with stuff, I think that really has a big impact, too. Because not only does he you know, does he feel that way, he has all the other people under him feeling that way. And they all react together. So if there’s a negative thing that comes up, you know, they’ll bring it up to him or whoever it is, I think that’s a good way to understand how to do it turn a negative into a positive

well, even even, I mean, you know, a lot of companies, especially big companies, like rigid as a big corporation like that, some companies that I’ve seen these, just brush it off and don’t even contact you back. That’s the worst. And that’s terrible. So,

that happens to I mean, it’s and we try not to let that happen. But and this is company wide. It’s not it’s not my policy. It’s not marketing policy. It’s I mean, we have a warranty policy, we have customer service. So a lot of times too, we can combat that by just like, hey, head over to our website, and there’s a live chat customer service that you know, let them know what’s going on. And I mean, there’s so many ways we can handle it. We’d handle it directly. We can handle it through direct messaging, we can connect them with someone in customer service through connecting to our warranty department. But if we get them dialed in and hopefully we change their opinion like that’s, that’s one customer that we didn’t lose, you know, so it’s it’s really important, you know, to To do that, because like you said, I mean, there’s it spirals out of control man, and it’s a small industry and you know, it’s so all you can do is hopefully leave a stronger impression than what they thought,

well, not talking about Reggie talking tomorrow about it on a personal level, we know that you clearly have a good heart. So if somebody is in a social media environment, and they have an issue with the person at school, they’re getting bullied, or they’re getting negative feedback or something, should they attack it right away and say, How can I fix this? Should they be nice about it? Should they ignore it? Like, what what do you think like, what would you tell your kids or your wife?

That’s a good question, I have a daughter that just started kindergarten. So I’m gonna be I’m gonna be that, that hopefully, not a helicopter dad or helicopter parent, but you know, it’s you want to protect your kids as much as you can. But I think it just depends. You know, it’s really, it’s tough that there’s, you know, cell phones and, you know, there’s I dropped my, I dropped my daughter off at school last week. And, you know, she goes to an elementary school, and there was, you know, there’s kids sit and wait for the, for the bell to ring and they’re playing on their phone, and like, holy cow, like, I didn’t get a cell phone until I was almost out of high school, you know, let alone in elementary school. But so I think it just, you know, stuff happens at such a younger age now. And you can’t, you know, as long as you can prepare your kids as, as well as possible, and you hope that they make good decisions. But you know, for one day, like, you know, you want to say hey, go defend yourself, but at the same time, you gotta you gotta be smart, too. And, you know, I’m sure my wife would think differently than I would but you don’t ever want your kids to get hurt or feel bad. Or, you know, I mean, yeah. Say someone’s mom or something, you know, that would devastate me. So, so easy now, it’s tough. Yeah, it’s

easy to be bullied or everything is so easy now, before it wasn’t like that. Me. Me. Yeah, school bike rack.

Yeah. It’s not like that. Well, I feel like it’s easier to deal with stuff like that, I guess. And then what Brett’s saying is just maybe like, have the open lines of communication very similar to what he does at rage and have to open lines of communication with the company and, and with the customers.

That’s funny. You mentioned that about, you know, how, that’s how how it used to be handled right. Like, oh, man, there was a spot for that. Yeah, I’m like, yeah. Oh, yeah.

That’s usually Yeah. Usually behind the bleachers on the football field. Right.

Yeah. Something but yeah, it’s a different time. That’s for sure. But, you know, a different and more difficult, more confusing, more, more emotional time. I mean, for everybody, you know. And so that’s, that’s the hard part about raising kids in this environment. Well, the reason

that I asked those questions is because I wanted to circle back and I want to understand a little bit more about, not that we’re going to change the world, because our little show isn’t anything yet. But I would like to make sure that people understand all this goes full circle, the things that you say, are not just comments coming back to you, the things that you say on other people’s platforms, can negatively impact what you could potentially be getting for yourself in the future. So you’re out there talking shit on a social media group. And you go and ask for a sponsorship from a guy like Brett RIDGID, there’s gonna be some negative impacts on that, because he doesn’t want to be talking about his company. And for the people that have open lines of communication, they may not have those negative things to say they may call read directly, and then make their opinion after that. Yeah.

Yeah, and it’s a small, like I said before, to it’s such a small industry like you, you got to be careful who you talk to, and how you talk to them around, like, around, you know, industry wide, because it’s just like, then you may need something in a year or two, you may you may, you may need, you may need help at a race or you may need help somewhere you may need. You never know when you’re going to need some some help on something. And, you know, there’s Word travels really fast and in this industry has really tight. You know, I would say I would say the industry as a whole certainly rallies together when when there’s, you know, people need it. Yeah. There’s great, great companies and organizations. But, you know, on the flip side of it, you know, things can spiral out of control for somebody pretty quick. You

know, that’s what I’ve seen. I mean it like I was telling you earlier, man, you come into it saying, hey, this guy’s blue, and it goes through this line of people and companies. And now the sky is black. And I said it was blue. You know what I mean? And that’s how it’s really hard because then you you have to pick and choose and you should never have to explain yourself to anybody. But yeah, in this day and age, sometimes you have to to be Okay sure, buddy. It’s it’s a rough it’s a rough life. We all live now. It’s not the way I used

to be. Well, what alright, we’re over the haters, dude. We’re on to the positive stuff now. Sorry Yeah, let’s What did you like how did you do at Vegas arena like how was that

they used to Reno was cool. I was out there for a quick in and out. It was like 140 degrees out and That’s felt like it. No, it was it was I went out there for qualifying. We had a couple guys out there that couple new racers to the team. And some of our some of our premier racers were out there qualifying in the unlimited classes. So we’re not there to support them. It was hot and dusty stuff so I I hung out for contingency the next morning and again, just did some networking, just talk to some people visited with some visited with some of our teams connected with other people in the industry. And then I headed back to headed back to Phoenix. And I did I did the hole. Watch the race from a screen follow the dots on the screen kind of thing for on Friday. So that was my Vegas read experience. But the race was great. We had we had a couple class winners. CJ Hutchins is a new is a new class one car for us. And they won first race with us. So that was pretty cool.

Class ones, isn’t

it? Well in the I guess they call it the 1500 class. But it’s the unlimited unlimited baggies. They qualify with the trophy trucks and stuff like that. It

was it was his particular car that two wheel drive or four wheel drive two wheel drive.

Yeah. So and then we had juries, Aidan and the camera team had had a really big win. You know, they qualified first. And they they left wire wire basically. And they brought the brought the win home. So that was pretty cool for them. And for us, so yes, it was a good it was overall a good it was a good trip. Good, good race.

And that’s sweet man. What, uh, what, what kind of stuff do you guys usually do for the chase trucks though? Cuz you guys have a lot of Chase trucks that need that stuff too. Right?

Yeah, the chase trucks are you know, actually, what we’ve you know, we focus a lot of our lighting setups on Chase trucks because that’s, that’s where a lot of the a lot of the need is, I mean, you know, you equip the you equip the driver and the race vehicles with with their with their lighting package, but then I mean, I mean, there’s like bottle 1000 is a 24 hour race. So you know, they need to they’re making pitstops at 10 You know, two in the morning before in the morning you know, all hours of the night so we we focus a lot on Chase truck setups and make sure we provide each team with with the best package that they’re going to be the most successful with so

do the race. Do the race trucks come in for their like for their pitstops and stuff? Do they have the light bars already on or do they have to like switch them out and put them back in like right before they go out at night?

Depends on depends on the on the driver but I mean, they they come off they put them on, you know any MacMillan’s one of our one of our Trophy Truck racers, and you know, he doesn’t always run his lighting package on the roof is, you know, they’ll they’ll come in and, you know, basically put that on, you know, before they head out for the for the night for the next four or five hours. So, but it just depends on just depends on the racer and what they prefer,

that shows a lot about the quality of the product, and if it can actually withstand, you know, taking the impact for that long duration. 10,000 miles just getting hit by rocks and stuff. Oh, yeah.

Yeah. So I mean, that’s a tough one too. But, you know, once you hopefully hopefully they’re on clean air, you know, that’s what that’s what you hope they’re out in plein air and they can they can just, you know, put the put the light bar on the roof and go as fast as I can. But if they’re stuck in the dust or you know, you know, in traffic and they’re getting roasted and all that, I mean, they certainly take a beating so we’ve seen some pretty cool pictures of pretty blown out lights after a race and it’s always cool to see them still working and stuff like that. So

yeah, that’s awesome. You know what they should come? I would like more tariffs. There you go.

Yeah. Well, a little a little a little wiper that goes

out. Yeah, sounds like fun. Well, before we get to the day, the giveaway I wanted to see more about what you’re into, like for hobbies. Like what do you do when you’re not working?

When I’m not working I I’m just hanging out with the family you know, just just you know, we try to we try to go to the park and get outdoors and do some fun stuff like that. Obviously, it’s it’s hot for four or five months out of the year. But you know, we’re gonna hopefully get some cooler temperature soon and you know, go hiking and stuff like that play outside my kids love to go to the park and stuff. So I mean, it’s it’s pretty dedicated to family time when I’m not working. Travel on the weekends. So it makes the weekend home that much more valuable, which is, which is always fun. So but yeah, I mean, if I’m not working, I’m usually hanging with my hanging with my wife, my kids and football seasons coming up. So probably watch a few football games

and who are you going to go for? Who’s your who’s your team?

Oh, man, I can’t tell you. It’s brutal. I’m a local. I’m a local fan. But but it’s it’s been a tough journey. So we’ll see how they do.

So for the people that don’t know where he’s located. He’s located in Phoenix, Arizona. So clearly, he’s a Cardinals fan. So that’s good, though. Man. Arizona for life. Right?

That’s right. right on Well, I

don’t have necessarily a favorite team.

I’m still a football guy, man.

Yeah, I’m not really a football guy either. But I do like the the Southern California stuff that a lot of you too so I may or may not be a Southern California fan so if we ever have a Southern California verse Arizona battle, we’ll go drink beer. All right, well check this out. So we got some really, really awesome comments. And I wanted to read a couple before you pick out our Rigid Industries, like bar contest winner. One of

them go into into my door. Yeah, already won. Well,

this comment was pretty amazing. I need this light bar to put on my Wi Fi so I can see what I’m crashing into. In the dark when I’m driving my family around. For real though, I need this. Maybe people will want to ride with me. When I can see.

That guy clearly needs the light. He clearly isn’t

his name his aunt cookie 881. So I don’t know if it’s a girl or a guy. But that was a pretty funny comment, though. We got we also got a comment saying, let’s see here. To be able to show my buddies what rigid lights can do. Good one, we have a good one. That’s actually one of my friends. He wants to have the light bar so so I can see what I’m getting in and out of my truck and to my wheelchair. So that’s a good one. Let’s see here. There was another really fun one to light up after hours for the BMX track. That’s

why I can still hear you.

Can you hear me? Yeah, you fell out a little bit ago.

So good. That’s the good thing about FaceTime is FaceTime will still get the audio so um, so yeah, so he wants to light up the BMX track after dark. Apparently he just doesn’t get enough BMX, and I know his kid rides BMX, too. So oh, here’s a good one. If we were to plow the ice roads, and the islands, we need the lightwire to see everything with rigid. So that was a good one too. So there was some really, really good ones. I was working in the dark, I could use it. So I don’t know if you can see us, Brett. But we are going to scroll through the comments here. We’re gonna have Cody, go ahead and just hit his finger. I want to do it ready. All right, let’s do it. The winner? Oh, okay. That’s actually a good one. The winner of the RIDGID what is it? What’s the, excuse me the lightwire that we’re giving away again?

The 20 inch series Pro.

That’s an expensive lightbar two it’s what 800 and some bucks. Three. I think

that’s a good yeah. It’s a good it’s a good light, good for UTV or a truck or a jeep. Whatever.

Yeah, so it is at Cook and cookie 881 and cookie 881 And I don’t even see it. You just hit it. Yeah. And so that’s actually German is actually German is you’re gonna have to slide into dirt life. show his DMS and message us. She’s one we will get you that lightbar out ASAP. Congratulations. Congratulations, Ashley Duran is on your win. So rad. Looks like we’re still having a little bit of Oh, there you are. Where

you’re back. Back. Yeah, I got a I got my Wi Fi. I don’t know if that was a problem. But yeah, you know,

now you’re good. Well, we the only other last thing that I want to talk,

go to contact the winner send me their contact info, and I’ll ship the slide directly to them.

Yeah, perfect. Sounds great, man. So it’s actually Japan is and she should slide into our DMS and let us know. We’ll actually contact her if he doesn’t. The only other thing that I wanted to talk to you about was in motorsports was what do you think about getting? Or how do you think we could get more non endemic sponsors in and before you answer that question? I had a Supercuts is a national haircut chain that came on board with me during some triathlon and bicycle stuff. I had a five year goal and I did all these bicycle events and a whole bunch of crazy stuff. And Supercuts was on board with me and I had them pay for the half of my first racing side by side, and they were involved with my program for three years of corporate change. And that allowed didn’t allow them to do any sponsorships anymore. They just had to

do remember, I remember seeing your senior car racing around Lucas track

and I got questions all the time. But dude, how the heck did you sponsor my super cuz you’re so lucky and all this stuff like haters again, but the general consensus was like, I just worked my ass off, I genuinely helped them in their program and their business. And they were not endemic. And they had a great time getting marketing out of I mean, we helped them so much we increased sales to them. I think 25% In the southern Arizona region, and they had 55 stores. I mean, that’s a lot a lot of money. So for them to have. So how do we get that to other people?

It’s tough. Unfortunately, there’s no formula for it. And if there was I think there we’d obviously have a lot more support within our sport. Man it’s it’s tough like you look at look at like NASCAR look at their model. I mean, that’s that’s so far beyond where we are unfortunately, but You know, NASCAR, his whole model of sponsorship and partners is like b2b, you know, it’s, you know, most of the most of the the corporate sponsors that you see within like a NASCAR team or, you know, within, you know, within the highest level of a NASCAR team. They’re, they’re in it for for a number of reasons, but a lot of that is just a, it’s just to connect b2b, you know, and to, you start getting decision makers that are connecting with other decision makers, and all of a sudden, you know, business erupts from that, you know, and so, within, within our sport, you know, where it’s, it’s much smaller, and it’s, you know, we’re, for the most part, we’re regionally based, you know, in the southwest, there’s obviously a massive, short course off road race going on this weekend up in the Midwest, but, you know, I think I think we have to look at some of the events as a whole and think of how we can, you know, continue to expand and build on those, like, there’s certain certain things that we are proud of in our sport, like the mid 400, or the Baja 1000, or the crank Crandon, 50th anniversary. I mean, there’s, I think there’s bigger events that we can draw a lot more attention to, and the promoters are doing a great job. But I think, you know, there’s no, I think if you look at it from an event standpoint, like the MIT 400, for example, there’s there’s celebrities that attend that, and there’s drivers that that connect with the right people in the right companies, like, you know, Jay Leno was driving a kamberg race truck at 400. I mean, that’s pretty big. Right? And then there’s, there’s episodes of that on NBC and things like that. So I see answer question, bringing in more non endemic sponsors. Again, I don’t know the formula, but it’s, there’s certainly a need for it. And I think if, you know, you can connect with certain companies a certain way. I mean, and, you know, maybe it starts with shopping local, you know, if you’re, if you’re going to be attending a race, you know, at a certain time of the year, on a certain geographical location, maybe you hit up some of the local businesses that may want to advertise through your, through your platform, you know, whether it’s a food vendor, or you know, you know, a truck service shop, or something like that, you know, and we and I, I managed a short course, on protein for a few years. And we did that we tried to, we tried to connect with local businesses that weren’t so off road driven, but it was like, hey, there’s a chance that, you know, you can connect with, you know, with with more people this weekend, through this event that’s going to draw, you know, hopefully, hopefully boost the economy for the weekend. And, you know, you generate a business out of it. So it’s a lot of senses. It’s tough. I mean, I don’t think I don’t think anybody’s, you know, I certainly hope it happens. But, you know, I think if you start realistic and reasonable and look at, you know, certain businesses that can that you can help regionally and locally or that you can that you think can benefit from what you’re doing, you start there, but man, there’s certainly a need for it and props to you for you know, that awesome, Supercuts delight, I specifically remember seeing your car racing around, and I vividly remember and at the time, I did not know you, but I remember it. And, you know, if we got more of that in the sport, you know, I think the sport would would boom, but I think it’s also on some of the series promoters, you know, and to help to help grow and to bring in new partnerships, and, you know, try to try to change and expand that, you know, I think short courses in a weird spot right now, and I just don’t, I just don’t know what direction they’re going to go. I certainly hope it’s up but unfortunately, it’s been flat for four years. Yeah, you know, and I see the car counts dropping and the spectator count dropping as a result. So if they can get more creative, you know, in terms of short horse racing, you know, and bring in some new partners and things like that, then that that that that would help but you know, I feel like they’re pretty they’re pretty set in their way and pretty stagnant right now in terms of you know, the the track layouts and the schedule and I mean, everything’s the same I can it’s on script I could predict exactly how a racist race weekend is going to go oh, you know, because I’ve I’ve seen it for years you know, going to the same races the same track the same schedule, the same drivers, the same everything. Yeah. And so I think that has to change to bring in more partners, you know, from the outside once they see it growing because

even a small start like Supercross changes the track every time and like they have a bunch of different things and they and they market the track as like, well in red, but they market the track as the Rocco’s leap is the best. So they have certain things that they pick out and they make it interesting for the fans. I think that’s really good and NASCAR sells, obviously the TV packages most of their stuff and then they have b2b Like red sand. I do I do really agree with you on the on the the events thing, I think the events is really important because the events are driven by the fans. And I know that the the non endemic sponsor that I brought in Supercuts was very, very key on having an ease of sponsorship. And when I say sponsorship, they didn’t really give a shit about sponsoring me as a race team. Through a series that didn’t really do anything for them. However, if I marketed one event that they could all come to that we were going to have a huge blast for all of their employees. And it was going to change the morale of the employees. And we were going to do all this cool stuff. They okay for that are

on point with that.

Yeah, yes. Yeah, it’s hospitality. It’s creating a program around what they’re trying to achieve. Right. So, you know, you give them the opportunity and most Supercuts employees probably don’t even know what off road racing is, right? But you bring them out for a weekend, a bunch of local super customers, they get to see it. Yep. And they’re like, holy cow, this is this is awesome. This is amazing. And, you know, they can hand out coupons and promos and collect leads, you know, things like that, and actually collect some data about the demographic and who’s going to these races and how they can reach them. But yeah, if you can connect that way and create a program, as opposed to just again, it goes back to reaching out and finding out what their goals are and how you can help them achieve them. But

just like with Supercuts, it was a win for just the employee morale, like half these employees went back to work the next day or the following week. And they knocked out like three for 10 haircuts, like they were killing it, like doing so good.

I remember that I remember how busy so it was cool.

And we’re an off road, too, right? Like everybody you’ve got, you’ve got a racecar like you know, and pre runners and UTVs and stuff, like then you do arrive and drive type program or give somebody a ride, you know, a sales promo where someone gets to come hang out with you for the day and write in your race car. Like, those things go a long way, you know, and it creates a lasting experience for somebody. So yeah, it’s just, it’s just a matter of creativity. And, you know, connecting with some of those brands is the hardest part. But I think once you do, you can, you can, you can certainly certainly establish a good program.

Well, thanks for all your insight, dude, I really appreciate it. Last question we have for you is, well, it’s actually a two part question. But what do you have in the future? And what do you want to be remembered by? Like, what do you want to have people know you for?

Man? Tough Questions. Future, you know, I, I don’t I guess, you know, I should, they should have a plan, right? You know, we have a lot of really cool things that we’re trying to accomplish here rigid. And so you know, we got goals, here, we got it, we got an exciting year ahead of us, you know, end to end of 2019, we have an even more exciting 2020 You know, with some really neat products and stuff coming out. You know, and I’ve got goals, I’ve got goals here within the company and goals for our team and goals of, of how we can bring it to the next level. You know, and then outside of that, you know, I just hope to keep, I hope to keep learning and growing. And, you know, this is this is actually not my first stint that rigid, I worked here before front of a lower level. And then I left for a great opportunity. And I learned a lot in two or three years that I was away working for an off road racing team I brought brought what I learned with me, and I hope I improved, you know that team and from a marketing standpoint, and hopefully I brought them kind of up a notch. And then from what I learned there, I was able to come back to rigid and move up. So I hope to continue to do that, you know, and I don’t ever want to go backwards and don’t think anybody does, but I certainly hope to, you know, leave a lasting impression here. You know, not going anywhere, but I just hope that my impact here is seen and hopefully we can continue to you know, just get better every day. And like I said, we have a really exciting, you know, year, two year three year plan here. It’s gonna be a lot of work, but it’s going to be amazing. So this is really cool. Get better. Yeah, I just want to keep

I love that man. You know, we get a lot of people saying, Oh, well, I just want to be known as the baddest dude ever. Like, I just want to be known as a badass racer, but he’s got realistic plans, he wants to take care of his family. He just wants to keep getting better. That’s a solid dude right there. Well, thank you very much, Brett for giving us an insight into not only we can’t wait to see the new rigid products coming out, but a little bit

more and we will we will be able to see some of them coming up here in the next couple of weeks at Sam’s sports Super Show Off Road Expo SEMA you know a lot of really fun events over the next few weeks that are I’m sorry over the next few months that that will finally be able to start showing showing some of the stuff we’ve been working on so really neat piece of content will be dropping soon. Yeah, it’d be fun man it’s gonna be it’s hopefully it hopefully it brings RIDGID to the next level and I think it will and I just want to say to one thing and not related but I want to shout out my gardener he’s the one who made that race happen for Oh yeah.

Well there you go. A little thing,

man that’s what matters right there.

Yeah, without without Mike I would have without Mike I would have never gone there to to race at least and I Unfortunately, I did not bring his car back the way he delivered it. But, but, but we we got through it. And I just wanted to give him a shout out, man. I appreciate what he did for me too. So Mike’s

an awesome, we’re gonna have him on the show in October. So, Mike, that’s what you’re telling me earlier. Yeah. So Mike and Danielle, welcome to the dirt life, I guess. And yeah, so those little things we were talking about the other day, those little tiny things making a big, big difference in people’s lives like me. If he didn’t let you drive that car. You wouldn’t stop to help me. So curious, you guys.

Yeah. I certainly wasn’t there to race. I was there for another reason, I guess. Right. Well, so will

lash sends crazy directions, but I’m glad you did.

Oh, no, no, absolutely. I and hopefully we can get together sometime in person and get some lunch. You guys come up here and check out rigid.

Yeah, we’ll try to do this. And I gotta have surgery this week. But we’ll try to meet up with you soon. Well, thank you very much, again, to give us a little bit of insight into Rich’s new products. Thank you very much for giving us some insight into rigids employees and how awesome the company that the employees drive. So again, much appreciation for all that you’ve done for me and for all that you’ve done for all of the industry. So thank you, Brett car,

you guys. I appreciate that. Thanks for having me on the show. Man. You guys are killing it. It’s awesome. I love what you’re doing and look forward to watching future episodes.

Thanks, man. We’ll go eat tacos with you soon, brother.

We’ll see you tacos. Talk to you soon. See you guys later. Alright, ladies and gentlemen, Brett carpenter. Get online Rigid Industries. Go check out their product man. Oh, Ashley Germanna. She

needs to slide in. It’s like, going on Ashley. We’re gonna somebody else. I’m just joking. So Ashley, Japan is hit us up and we’ll get to your lightbar like to see what she does. And without that thing and puts it on? Did I really really enjoy having those conversations? Yeah, you know, like, I don’t think they’re boring at all. Like I love to understand what goes on in people’s heads and what they’re thinking and he he has a clear focus on what he wants to do for rigid. But did you notice that he really was enjoying talking about what he was doing? Yeah,

I mean, that’s that’s so important too. He loves what he does, man it it really truly shows

it makes a good impact. Yes. And for him to be that positive about social media just goes to show how much like the the way that we look at things we need to just be positive and I in life. So I appreciate him for coming on. And for just making killer products, every pitch and if we could do it right across the country next year, then I would love to do that and go out some individuals and have some fun along the way. Maybe we’ll take the podcast on the road. Let’s

do it. I think that’d be a blast. I know we talked about that. We got some comments. Actually on that. There’s a local guy Renee DS. Cool dude. He asked was high functioning Special Needs guy should go on the trip.

is Rene Diaz have a disability?

I don’t I love the guy. Now he he takes care of special needs. Oh right. Um, another friend of mine dusty Tiara. He helps out to the we go to the dunes together. They brings him out hangs out with us. Well,

I don’t know how many people can fit. I don’t know if we could put up to special needs people.

I think we should plan something maybe. You know, we should

flesh this out a little bit. Maybe get some more vehicles involved and people that can’t drive could at least sit in the passenger seat.

A little a little run around a parking lot. Give him an opportunity. Yeah, even

if it’s not across the country. I see what you’re saying. Yeah, that’s a good idea. Sure. Put this unicorn to good use. Yeah. So okay, well, again, thank you to Bratton. Maybe we can get him involved next year. Let’s let’s end the show by saying go pick up some merch. Get the merch quick. It’s going out good. I

got this camouflage hat. Oh, man.

The girls tanks are still I think my favorite. That is Rachel. My wife loves

this hat. She wears it all the time. She comes back from the store and she’s got her dirt life hat on. It’s like wow, she loves that. So all of its quality stuff too. Yeah, it’s good. These are good. These are good quality. Yeah, sure. It’s everything. So get on their

shirts are super soft and lightweight for the Arizona heat. Yeah, for the scorching Arizona desert. So thank you to all of our sponsors. Thank you to shock therapy. Thank you to solder weld, thank you to feel wheels. Thank you to our newest sponsors all under racing products. And of course thank you to Rigid Industries for making such awesome products and having such awesome people.

awesome to have the support.

We’ve kind of mentioned that a little bit. I don’t know if we’re gonna have a show next week. We’re going to kind of see how things go. I have to have surgery on Friday. We’ll see how my ears maybe I could even do a half year half headphone thing. But if we don’t we may not have a future guests. Maybe we’ll just bro out Yeah, well, excuse me.
